 Strawberries
Winter volumes start to build
Following a difficult month there are now signs of improvement as volumes increase. Both Egypt and Morocco are building up steadily, and Spain is maintaining this momentum and expected to shortly reach the first peak of successive flushes by early March.
Israeli fruit is also coming forward although volumes are lighter than expected due to a strong demand from the home market, strengthening prices.
 Raspberries
Excellent prospects
We are now experiencing full production of Glen Lyon from Spain, coupled with the results from some brilliant early trials of varieties which are exclusive to us.
 Blackberries
Mexican support
Unbroken continuity of top quality Tupi from Mexico as the major source will continue to dominate helping to build the increasing demand.
 Blueberries
Plugging the gaps
While Chile has taken over as the main source we anticipate a dip in volume due to a burst of hot weather.
The impact of this is expected to be felt over the coming weeks into March, although New Zealand is now waiting in the wings and should be able to provide the level of support necessary for our programmes to be maintained.
Latest news is that harvesting of the first crops from both Spain and Florida are expected to be earlier than last season, and anticipated around the last week of March/first week of April.
 Red Currants
Tailor made
The quality of Dutch stored fruit in controlled atmosphere remains excellent, and we can tailor volumes to meet any anticipated peaks in demand such as Easter which falls early this year.
 Rhubarb
Readily available
While there are limited quantities of good quality English forced rhubarb coming forward at the present time we are still supplementing orders with the Dutch equivalent.
Overall there is sufficient for customers' requirements keeping pace with the increased consumer interest which has been building over past seasons. |
