 Strawberries
Tapering off
Limited volume of good quality outdoor English fruit is still continuing to come forward, but we have now reached the tail end of the season.
Already glasshouse crops are beginning to arrive and the first Dutch arrivals are expected next week.
 Raspberries
New beginning
The period of "new beginning" is also apparent in sourcing our raspberry programmes.
We are seeing the last of the covered English crop being picked, with Tumaleen grown under glass taking its place.
The arrival of the first of the Spanish crop, earlier than last year, is also welcome at a time when demand is still strong. Fruit quality is excellent and offers enormous opportunities for promotion.
 Blueberries
Welcome arrivals
English outdoor availability is slackening, but volumes will be maintained with the first arrivals arrival of both Mexican and Spanish fruit next week.
These will continue to be supported by glasshouse crops from both the UK and Holland.
 Blackberries
Famine continues
The extreme shortage of blueberries will continue to make itself felt over the next week, as the Argentine crop continues to be decimated by poor weather. There will be a few scattered arrivals flown in next week, and as more regions begin to add their weight the position should improve. Meanwhile limited Australian fruit is helping to plug the gap.
 Red Currants
Orderly marketing
Quality Dutch fruit held in controlled atmosphere storage allows us to provide unbroken continuity for our specialist customers.
 Rhubarb
Keep going
Outdoor crop will continue to be available as long as autumn temperatures remain mild, and there is still good quality reported by our growers. |
