The Technical department focuses on three main areas of the business: Quality, Due Diligence, and Innovation
Quality
In order to ensure a consistent supply of the best quality fruit for our customers, we work with growers who produce the best quality crops and harvest and chill the picked fruit with great care and attention to detail.
We work closely at field level with all our growers worldwide, and this includes regular technical visits throughout the season. This involves having our own dedicated and experienced representatives working directly with overseas growers.
The technical team also supports our suppliers in meeting customers’ quality standards by advising on quality manuals, or supplying and implementing a complete Quality Management System. Growers are provided with an annually updated Grower’s Manual (covering field practices) and Packhouse Quality Manual (covering management of product quality and safety in the packhouse).
Due Diligence
We all know that we have to complete paperwork based on EurepGap (Assured Produce in the UK), BRC for packhouses, work welfare, pesticide use, and residue testing. The Technical department makes your life easier by taking a very proactive role in simplifying regulatory matters then communicating these requirements in simple language. Of course, we will also help you complete the relevant documents to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
Innovation
The UK retail environment is fiercely competitive with multiple retailers often trying to achieve an advantage over their competitors by innovation in new products, packaging and season extension. The Summerfruit Company’s technical team are constantly investigating and evaluating new ideas such as new types of packaging, development of new varieties, and improved storage techniques. |
